DIFFUSING

DIFFUSING is a TV using one LCD panel to realize two screen textures. The area around, which is semi-transparent, acts as a kind of “diffuser” of the central part. So, the TV is blended into the environment in a more interesting way and could be switched between different scenarios.

LCD TV is lightened by the backlight, but it’s transparent itself. So if we match a smaller backlight with a larger display screen, we could achieve two screen textures at the same time. It makes the TV breath in the space.

I choose to realize this concept through a desktop screen. It’s both a TV and a computer.

There’re three kinds of interface that could be applied in the TV.

Mode 1 - Wallpaper

There’re two areas as an overall part. Daily information could be displayed, for example time, calendar, weather and paintings.

Mode 2 - Entertainment

The central area is used as traditional display. The area around could be used to control it or show side information like playlist, volume adjusting, play or pause button.

Mode 3 - Focus

Under this mode, it is basically a computer. User could focus on the central area with the other one darkened. When there’s new message such as email, calendar, you will receive a notification in the form of small card lined together beside.
